auction robert mapplethorpe

Today, I got a snail mail from a local art auction house. They announced what art would be on auction in the coming weeks.
One item struck my eyes. A photograph by the late Robert Mapplethrope ... estimated price 4.500 to 6.000 euro (see the above picture)! Woohoo!!! I love the photographs of this artist, I consider him one of the top photographers ever. Of course he was gay. And his studies of the nude male (not the above picture) are astonishing. Same goes for the price his works obviously cost on auctions!

If you want to see more of his work: there's ample info on the internet on him. Just search for his name!

your world in your hands

did you have that feeling too? That you had your world in your own hands and wondering what to do with it?

Close To The Edge

What a beautiful picture! I couldn't resist posting it here :-) Not only because it's a waterfall (I love waterfalls) and a young man (also one of my favorites!), but the pic has such an incredible depth, and I can almost hear the thunder of the water falling down. Wow.

That being said, I don't think it's wise to stand so close to the edge of the waterfall. Living close to the edge, thrilling as it may be,  often proves to be unwise. Unless you like to fall :-)

preparing for the fight (2)

I always wondered about the colour of the underwear of the red shirt protesters ...

now I know :-)

before the fight ...

Before the fight, the matador undresses and sends a prayer. Then the guys in the background will dress him up and he'll enter the arena.

Not a picture, but a drawing ... normally you're not allowed to see this hehe!

Men On The Chrysler Building Gargoyle

In the very interesting group http://groups.google.com/group/Historical-Pictoral  this picture was posted. I get dizzy by just viewing the picture, you can imagine I'd never be able to stand there myself :-) But it's an incredible shot!

what is Belgium famous for?

Every time we're travelling, guys ask me what my country is famous for.

Well, the obvious ... chocolate, witloof, spruiten, .... all lovely things to eat that you find originally from here.

What we cannot export, is the flower carpet, yearly in Brussels, and every 4 year (Floraliën) in my town Gent. It really is amazing!

Holi, or the joy of being colorful

Last month, we celebrated the Khmer new year, and the Thai SongKran. In India, they have a festival that's called 'holi': everybody throws colored powder to each other on the streets.
I love this picture, because it shows how intense the guys enjoy their being (almost) naked and the blessing of the color.

13d Century fountain in france

Well, the use of the obvious bodypart :)

Whoever would make a fountain like that today would be banned hahaha .... fortunately the arts in the middle ages were not so victorian! I'll post another example in the next post!

the true rainshower .....

.... before the word "rainshower" was even invented hehe!

fashion from the past

This picture dates from several decades ago (I have no idea about the exact year). Look at the clothes! You'll see details coming back in future fashion: the baggy pants, the lovely straps over the shoes ... incredible.
Note that the stretcher is made from two poles and two scout uniform shirts.

Historical pictures can be so amazing :-)

the house of the future! in 1957 :-)

The Monsanto House of the Future was an attraction at Disneyland built in 1957. The attraction featured a conceptualized home of the future from the year 1986. The house featured kitchen appliances such as microwaves (that had yet to be commonplace in most homes) The attraction was torn down in 1967.

The floor plan below from an article in "Popular Mechanics":
